How to Write a Freelance Proposal That Wins the Client
A short, clear structure for proposals on Upwork, Fiverr or direct clients — focused on the client’s goal, not your résumé.

On this page
Clients read many proposals. The ones that win are rarely the longest. They show that you understood the problem and that working with you will be easy.
Start with their goal, not your bio
Open with one or two sentences about what the client wants to achieve. “You want more customers to finish checkout on your store” is far stronger than “I am a designer with 8 years of experience.”
Explain your plan in simple steps
List what you will do and what they will receive. Clear deliverables reduce questions and prevent scope creep later.
- What you will deliver
- How many revisions are included
- When each part will be ready
Show one relevant example
One portfolio piece that matches the client’s industry or problem is worth more than ten random links.
Be clear about price and timeline
State the price, the deposit and the timeline. If you offer options (basic, standard, premium), keep it to three so the choice is easy.
End with an easy next step
Ask a simple question or suggest a short call. Make it easy for the client to say yes.
